Grizzly Bites - Issue No. 10
April 5, 2010
TO: Fans, Friends, Alumni, and supporters of Oakland University Athletics
Our athletic programs had quite a winter. Our men's and women's swimming and diving teams won their 11th consecutive Summit League championship. The men's basketball team wrapped up a record-setting season, breaking league records in wins (17) and conference winning percentage (.944), along with setting new OU records in wins (26) and posted an 11-game winning streak that ended in the first round of the NCAA tournament versus No. 18 Pittsburgh. Congratulations to our three league championship teams.
After our superb winter season, OU now leads the Commissioner's Cup standings. Last season we finished fourth and look for our spring sports to continue the momentum built up from our winter sports. For more information on this, click here.
I would like to thank all of our fans who made the trip to Milwaukee to cheer on our men's basketball team during their NCAA tournament game. The show of support was tremendous and a definite showcase of OU pride. I was privileged to hear from many administrators and tournament personnel on the positive display by our fans.
April marks the official launch of the Oakland Varsity Association (Varsity O). This program's mission is to serve Oakland's alumni-athletes from all eras. The Varsity O is dedicated to serve our student-athlete alumni as an ongoing connection to Oakland Athletics. Examples include opportunities for team reunions, job placement, alumni/current athlete monitoring and other support of our current student-athletes. The web page will also serve as the source for information on Homecoming, The Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor and provide alumni-athletes with an opportunity to update their information so that they can stay in touch with OU. Look for the "block" O as the official designation of the Varsity O Association!

Please continue to send me your feedback whenever possible. While I cannot guarantee a personal response to every e-mail that we receive, please know that they will all be read, so I do encourage your participation in this process. I also encourage you to share this letter with any OU fan or alumnus that may not have access to the internet. Our mission is to inform and engage as many Golden Grizzlies supporters as we possibly can.
