ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University student-athletes posted an organization-best 3.30 grade point average during the winter semester and the Golden Grizzlies recorded their 21st consecutive semester of 3.0 GPA or higher as a student-athlete population. Five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA last semester; Jared Burkert (baseball/biomedical sciences), Alysse Fischer (women's swimming and diving/elementary education), Melissa VanderMeulen (women's swimming and diving/health sciences), Sofia Miller (women's tennis/liberal studies) and Maggie Schneider (women's track and field/anthropology).

Oakland has led the Horizon League in Academic Honor Roll selections in all seven semesters they have competed inside the conference. The Golden Grizzlies led the way during the fall with 147 honorees, and the winter/spring selections will be announced by the league office in June.

Highlights from the Winter Semester:

  • A total of 11 teams posted a team GPA higher than 3.30
  • Five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 semester GPA
  • Overall 66 student-athletes earned a 3.8 or higher this semester
  • Volleyball had the highest semester GPA and best in program history (3.63)
  • Golf led the men's programs with a 3.55 GPA
  • Five teams produced a program-best GPA; baseball (3.43), women's cross country (3.56), men's swimming and diving (3.37), men's soccer (3.36) and volleyball
