Oakland Gears Up For Midnight Madnezz
Rochester, Mich. (Oct. 13, 2004) ???C Oakland University???s athletics department will be kicking off it???s men???s and women???s basketball seasons by hosting Midnight Madnezz on Friday, October 15, concluding OU???s Week of Champions at the University (WOCU) events. The event will be held in the Athletics Center ???O???Rena on the Oakland campus, with doors opening at 11 p.m. There is no charge for the event. All of the fun will begin at 11:30 p.m. with a performance by the Oakland Pep Band. This will be the sixth annual Midnight Madnezz at Oakland and it promises to bring out more than 2,500 OU students and Golden Grizzlies fans. A full schedule of activities is planned for Midnight Madnezz, beginning with a free t-shirt giveaway to the first 1,000 fans in line, compliments of the OU Student Congress. Local radio station 89X plans to run live remotes from the event and will be giving away t-shirts, concert tickets and other prizes. Pepsi will be giving away free samples of their new ???Pitch Black??? product and have also donated Pistons pre-season suite tickets that will be given away. University president Dr. Gary Russi will also be drawing the names of one male and one female student that will win free tuition. In addition to the Pep Band there will also be entertainment from the university???s Images dance team, the independent dance team Intrigue, and the teams??? mascot, The Grizz. Festivities will culminate just before midnight with the introduction of the men???s and women???s basketball coaches and players. Oakland???s men???s team will begin their first official practice at 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, with the women???s team getting things started at 9 a.m. Oakland???s men???s team will see its first action in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Adrian College at 7 p.m. in the ???O???Rena. The Golden Grizzly women???s squad will play its exhibition against Western Ontario on Monday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the ???O???Rena.
