OAKLAND ADDS MATT DERY TO BASKETBALL BROADCAST TEAM
He will become the new men's basketball analyst for the Golden Grizzlies.
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Matt Dery will join the Oakland Broadcast team as the color analyst alongside play-by-play voice Neal Ruhl and inside-the-huddle reporter Cortney Scott, announced Director of Athletics Jeff Konya on Thursday. Dery is the former midday host of 105.1 (WMGC-FM) and has over 20 years of experience as a Detroit sportscaster.
“We are very excited that Matt will be joining our Crittenton Broadcast team,” said Konya. “He is an established sportscaster in the Detroit media market and will add tremendous value to an already strong team.”
Dery most recently worked as the in-game host for the United Shore Professional Baseball League (2016) at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica, Mich. He has plenty of basketball experience, calling Mid-American Basketball games on Fox Sports Detroit (2010), serving as play-by-play man for Detroit Mercy (1998-2016) on the radio, ESPN3 and WADL-TV, and play-by-play fill-in for the Detroit Pistons on television and radio (1998-Present).
“I'm very excited about this new venture with the Golden Grizzlies,” said Dery. “Getting a chance to work alongside Jeff Konya, Coach (Greg) Kampe, and Neal Ruhl was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up." The Golden Grizzlies will air all of their games on its basketball radio network, WDFN-AM (1130). Dery will call a majority of home games with Ruhl and Scott on TV20 (WMYD), and will travel to a number of Horizon League contests.
“It's great to have Matt Dery joining our broadcast team here at Oakland,” said Ruhl. “Matt’s resume speaks for itself and it’s not everyday you get an opportunity to add someone of his caliber to your team. Between myself, Matt and former Oakland great Cortney Scott, we will have one of the best broadcast teams in college basketball.”
Dery also hosts a daily Detroit Lions Podcast, “Locked on Lions”, on the Locked on Podcast Network. He worked as Sports Director at WDFN-AM (1996-2009) and as the pregame, halftime and postgame host for Detroit Pistons Basketball on WDFN and 97.1 The Ticket.
