OAKLAND UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
This cutting-edge website focuses on social media engagement for fans and student-athletes.
ROCHESTER, Mich. – In an effort to provide Golden Grizzly fans with an interactive, responsive site that showcases fan engagement and student-athlete accomplishments, Oakland University Athletics teamed with CBS Advanced Media to develop a unique athletics website at GoldenGrizzlies.com. For example, fans can see their social media posts by using #WEARtheBEAR and #OUrstory on Instagram and Twitter.
“We formed a great committee this summer that consisted of our student-athletes, Oakland students, external operations personnel and fans that could help us develop a state-of-the art website that enhances fan engagement and promote our student-athlete accomplishments,” said Scott MacDonald, Senior Assistant AD for Public Relations. “We understand that fans get their information from social media networks, so we made that prominent on our new site. I believe this is unique to the market place and our fans will enjoy seeing their interaction with athletics, while providing a first-class promotion of our student-athletes.”
In an effort to change the way our fans receive news, Athletic Communications created a new recap format that displays infographics for game results and videos that tell #OUrstory and can easily be displayed across all social media networks. Along with being social media heavy, the new website features an improved video player, user friendly photo galleries and score updates at the very top that allows fans to get quick updates, access to broadcasts and live stat links to follow their Golden Grizzlies.

Comments from committee members
“It was exciting to be a part of something that aimed at focusing on the unique aspects of Oakland Athletics,” said SAAC president and women’s soccer player Jordan Sargent. “I think the new website showcases the best parts of athletics. Athletics is not just about those participating on sports teams, but the supporting community. The new design puts great weight on the community, offering an innovative perspective of the athletic enterprise.”
“I'm extremely appreciative of the opportunity to help rebuild the Oakland University Athletics website,” said junior volleyball player Melissa Deatsch. “I am very proud of the final product. I believe the new, innovative structure, highlights all the elements of the website the student-athletes value most.”
“The launch of the redesigned Golden Grizzlies website showcases the athletic department's ongoing efforts to make the experience for student-athletes and fans unique and memorable on all levels,” said Oakland University student and Oakland Post Editor-in-Chief Kristen Davis. “In addition to the focus on the gameday experience, student-athletes and fans now get a one-of-a-kind experience on their computer or smartphone when checking in on the Golden Grizzlies' latest news. The amount of work the department has put in to make this website not only the best it can be but also unlike any other college's athletic website is clear in how great it turned out.”
