Gary Brancaleone and Beth Benson have been instrumental in the success of Oakland Athletics and continue to support the university at the highest levels. Avid basketball fans, Gary and Beth have traveled across the country to support the Golden Grizzlies over the years, including trips to Oklahoma, Indiana and South Dakota for the league tournaments.
Gary and Beth have been active alums, meeting in 1985 while serving on the SBA Alumni board, and bonded through their shared love of Oakland while working on committees and Career Day events. Their passion for the basketball programs started with the transition to Division I and continues to grow as they serve as some of the top recruiters for fans and donors for the athletic department. That passion has expanded to include volleyball as well, for the past several seasons.
In 2004, Gary and Beth received the Oakland University Alumni Association Spirit Award and OU bestowed on them the Distinguished Volunteer AFP Award in 2007.
They both have served as president of the SBA Alumni Board, members of the OU President’s Club, Alfred G. Wilson society and OU Black and Gold Loyalty society. Gary spent eight years on the OU Athletics Board of Visitors (2001-09) and Beth has spent more than 10 years on the OUAA Board of Directors.
The tremendous amount of support Gary and Beth have given to Oakland University and the Athletics Department has resulted in exceptional growth, including the recent move to the Horizon League on July 1, 2013.
Oakland University alums, Beth graduated in 1981 with a business degree in management, and went on to receive a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1997. Gary earned his business degree in finance in 1982.
