John Cebelak and Tammy Mires have joined the Oakland staff
John Cebelak joined Oakland as the Coordinator of Compliance in September of 2012. In his role, he handles day-to-day compliance-related matters for all of Oakland's 18 varsity programs and assists the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in ensuring student-athlete eligibility and the department's compliance with NCAA, The Summit League, and Oakland University rules and regulations.
"I am very pleased and excited to welcome John as the newest member of the OU compliance office," said Kowal. "His addition to the staff will allow the compliance office to become more efficient in serving the Oakland Athletic Department, student-athletes and the institution as a whole, making certain we continue adhering to all the requirements of the NCAA."
Prior to joining Oakland, Cebelak served in the same position at the University of Albany-SUNY, where he assisted with all aspects of the school's compliance efforts with NCAA, America East Conference, and institutional regulations. He also has experience at Medaille College and Canisius College, where he worked as an intern and graduate assistant respectively.
A native of Holland, Mich., Cebelak obtained a bachelor's degree in economics and media studies from Kalamazoo College in 2009, where he competed on the varsity swim team. He also holds a master's degree in sports administration from Canisius (2011). Cebelak is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance, and currently resides in Rochester.
