Robert (Robby) Stewart, Ph.D. has been appointed interim athletic director effective February 1, 2014. Stewart has been involved with OU Athletics since January, 2006 when he accepted the position of faculty athletic representative (FAR); with that appointment he also became a member of the Title IX Committee. Stewart currently serves as associate dean, College of Arts & Sciences and is a professor of psychology. He has served as chair of psychology prior to moving into the role of associate dean. While serving as FAR he served on the Self-Study Certification Committee and on the Rules Compliance Subcommittee both reporting to the NCAA. He has been an active participant in the Summit and the Horizon Leagues both as a FAR as well serving on various task forces or ad hoc committees as requested by the respective commissioners.
"In my many years at OU I have always known Athletics to be a place where people are passionate about the things they do and I enjoy being with passionate people," said Stewart. "I enjoy competition. I strive for excellence in the things I do, and I look forward to expanding my interactions with all the members of the Athletics staff.
Stewart received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and master's degree and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University.
