Joe Impellizzeri is in his third year as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Development at Oakland University. Impellizzeri is responsible for securing private gifts and managing donor relations.
In his first two years at Oakland, Impellizzeri has overseen a development program that has realized steady growth and record achievements. The highlights include a 31 percent increase in overall contributions to Athletics and a 30 percent increase in the number of donors to the department. Membership in the Basketball Donor VIP Programs has more than doubled and the Courtside Donor Club sold out for the first time in the program's history. Other highlights include an increase of more than 60 percent in endowed scholarship funds to support student-athletes and, in 2010, supervised the launch of The Varsity O Association to help reconnect and engage with Oakland's alumni student-athletes from across all eras.
Before joining Oakland, Impellizzeri spent more than 20 years in government, higher education and the non-profit sectors. For the past 15 years he was in leadership positions in development and external relations for a number of Southeast Michigan non-profit organizations, including Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit's Police Athletic League (PAL), College for Creative Studies and United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
A native of Fraser, Michigan, Impellizzeri earned a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Olivet College in 1984. While at Olivet, he was a three-year member of the Comets' baseball team. In 1995, Impellizzeri earned a master's degree in sports management and sports administration from Ohio State University, where he served as a graduate assistant in the Department of Athletics. Impellizzeri resides in Macomb Township, Michigan with his wife Heidi and their three daughters, Audrey, Katherine and Sarah.
