CHICAGO -- Takara Martin broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.22 joining teammate Rachel Waite as the only two women in program history to swim the event in under one minute and two seconds as the Oakland swimming and diving teams completed day three of Horizon League Championships at UIC.
Also winning individual titles were Patricia Aschan in the 400 IM (4:15.06) becoming the first woman to win the event four years in a row. Patrik Lofgren won his first individual championship in the same event going 3:54.73. Tuomas Kiviluoma won another title, this time in the 200 freestyle clocking a time of 1:37.32. The women's 400 medley relay team of Grace Shinske, Martin, Aschan and Katie Colwell finished off the night with a win going 3:41.51
Oakland showed its depth by placing five swimmers in the top-eight in the women's 400 IM and the men's 200 free. Four Golden Grizzlies also placed in the top-eight in the women's 100 breaststroke. The Golden Grizzlies will go for 39 straight men's league titles and 23 consecutive women's titles tomorrow at the final day of the Horizon League Championships with prelims starting at 11 a.m. E.T. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
