OAKLAND SWIM AND DIVE CLAIM HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

CLEVELAND -
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies claim their Horizon League titles once again as this marks the men's 40th straight year, while it is the women's 24th straight. The men and women's team combined for six more first place finishes on the fourth and final day of competition.

Once again, the relays came up big for Oakland. To conclude the competition, Katie Colwell, Amber Lefler, Arynn de Leeuw and Holly Morren swam the 400-yard freestyle in 3:20.38 which was good for first place, a new school record and a new league championship record. The men's 400-yard free team of Brant Cassidy, Andrew Binder, Rudy Aguilar and Paul Huch also came in first with a time of 2:56.97.

Oakland swept the 200-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle as Grace Shinske finished in first in the 200-yard backstroke while also qualifying for an NCAA B cut with a time of 1:57.92. Will Gayne finished first with a time of 1:44.55, also good for an NCAA b cut. Rachel Boodt finished fourth (2:02.58) and Hannah Burgess finished eighth (2:03.23) in the 200 backstroke event as well. Holly Morren placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (49.22) as did Paul Huch (44.03). Both times were good for NCAA b cuts. Katie Colwell finished second with an NCAA b cut time in the 100-yard free (49.93), while Brant Cassidy placed fifth (44.87), Andrew Binder placed sixth (44.92) and Tony Eriksson placed seventh (45.12) for the men.

In addition, Sydney McDowell finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.59, while Katlynn Emaus came in sixth with a time of 2:19.56. On the men's side, Tarek Aboelenin placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.31, which was good for an NCAA B cut while Ayrton Kasemets placed fifth with a time of 2:00.92.

Cassie Misiewicz placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.26) while Rudy Aguilar had a time of 1:48.08 in the same event. Carson Barnes came in behind Aguilar in fifth place with a time of 1:48.99.

To round out the diving events, Joe Smith finished in second place by a score of 353.80 while Jordan Smith placed eighth by a score of 281.85.
