AKRON, Ohio -- Patricia Aschan broke the 200-yard IM school record by going 1:59.36 becoming the first woman in program history to swim under two minutes in that event as the Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed at the Zippy Invite Friday night. Aschan also earned an NCAA B-cut.
Micah DeJonge was the lone individual winner in the 500 freestyle breaking the meet and pool record with a time of 4:28.13, good for eighth fastest in school history. Holly Morren clocked the second-fastest 50 free in Oakland history by going 22.96, a career-best and NCAA B-cut. In prelims, Katie Colwell swam a 23.00 in the 50 free, which is third all-time right behind Morren. Krissy Harmon swam a career-best 4:53.75 in the 500 free, which ranks third all-time in school history.
The Golden Grizzlies also had a pair of relays ranking in the top-five all-time, with the team of Colwell, Morren, Amber Lefler and Arynn de Leeuw swimming the second-fastest 200 free relay (1:32.42) while the men’s 200 free relay team of Jeremiah Morren, who earned a NCAA B-cut in the 50 free, plus Devon Nowicki, Tony Eriksson and Paul Huch clocked a time of 1:20.11, good for third all-time.
The men’s team sits in second-place and the women in third-place as day two action begins tomorrow with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
