INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland's Micah DeJonge and Joe Smith earned Horizon League Male Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors the league office announced Tuesday after a pair of impressive performances over the weekend against Michigan State.
DeJonge recorded a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:32.16, good for the 10th-fastest time in program history against Michigan State. He also notched two fourth-place finishes against the Spartans in the 500 freestyle (4:39.98) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:04.86).
Oakland's Joe Smith set a school record in the 1-meter diving competition, breaking his own record for the third time this season. Smith earned a first place finish and a score of 371.62. Smith has shattered the previous record he set, entering the season with the record at 343.05, which he set a season ago. The junior tallied two of Oakland's 11 first-place finishes on Saturday, including a first-place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 354.82.
This marks the fourth time this season Smith has been named Horizon League Diver of the Week.
The Golden Grizzlies will host senior day Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. against Cleveland State.
