ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University men's and women's swimming and diving teams released their schedule for the 2011 season, head coach Pete Hovland announced on Thursday. They will also be hosting The Summit League Championship for the first time since 2008 where they will look to win their 13th consecutive Summit League championship.
"I'm excited about how our schedule came together," said Hovland. "As usual we will be swimming and diving against some of the best teams from some of the best conferences in the country."
During the fall schedule, OU will be swimming against such top competition as Michigan, Notre Dame and TCU. They will also face Michigan State in the first competitive meet of the year on Oct. 8. To close out the fall schedule both teams will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the Eastern Michigan Invite.
During the winter season, the black and gold will be hosting three meets at the OU Aquatic center. They will compete against Cleveland State and Xavier on January 14. Both teams will host a two-day quad-meet against Cincinnati, Ashland, and Kenyon College on January 20 and 21. The last meet before the Summit League Championships will be against league opponent IUPUI on January 28.
"As challenging as that will be, it will position us to be at our best when the championship rolls around in February," said Hovland.
Oakland will be hosting The Summit League Championships at the OU Aquatic Center from Feb. 15 through Feb. 18. They will look to claim their 13th consecutive Summit League title at home for the first time since 2008.
"It goes without saying, that we are extremely excited to be hosting the Summit League championships here at OU the next two years," said Hovland."
Oakland will also be hosting the Michigan USA Open on Feb. 2 through Feb. 5.
