ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Oakland swimmer Ayrton Kasemets will be competing for the Estonian team at the 2017 University Games held in Tapei, Taiwan.
Kasemets, a senior from Mundelein, Ill. will be swimming in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter breaststroke plus the medley relay on Aug. 20, 22, 24 and 25 respectively.
"Being picked to represent Estonia and Oakland University is a great honor," said Kasemets. "It has been a goal of mine to swim for Estonia on an international level since I was a child. On top of that, I get to represent the Golden Grizzlies which is also a great honor and I could not be any more grateful for the opportunity."
The World University Games, known around the world as Universiade, is an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation. The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival staged every two years in a different city around the world, representing both winter and summer competitions. It is second only in importance to the Olympic Games.
The 29th University Games will take place Aug. 19-30.
