Grizzlies Dominate Competition At Quadrangular Meet
Meet Results Rochester, Mich. (Oct. 29, 2005) ???C Against a quartet of competition, the Oakland men???s swimming and diving team showed its depth in a sweeping victory. Led by Chris Sullivan (Rockford, Mich.) and Zoltan Horvath (Balatonalmadi, Hungary), the Golden Grizzlies defeated Cincinnati, Wayne State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee this afternoon. Oakland topped all three opponents by more than 40 points apiece, beating Wayne State 175-62, handling UW-Milwaukee 186-57 and claiming victory over Cincinnati 140-91. The Golden Grizzlies began the men???s competition by placing two teams in the top three of the 400-yard medley relay event. The foursome of Eric Lynn (Plymouth, Mich.), Horvath, Chris Tansel (Dundee, Mich.) and Sullivan earned first with a time of 3:23.76, while Mike Templeton (Canton, Ohio), Steven Catala (Wylie, Texas), Jason Manasseri (Austin, Texas) and Luke Ortego (Rockford, Mich.) finished third in 3:33.29. Anthony Serio (Oakland, Mich.) led Oakland in the 1000-yard freestyle event, placing third with a time of 9:50.23. In the 200-yard free event, the Golden Grizzlies showed its depth, placing all four of its swimmers among the 16 competitors in the top seven, led by Bryon Tansel (Dundee, Mich.), who finished second in 1:42.55. Sullivan picked up the first of his two individual victories in the 50-yard free event, with his 20.79 registering as the only time under 21 seconds in the event. Horvath followed in the next men???s event with a second place finish in the 200-yard IM. Ryan Kish (Rockford, Mich.) dominated the men???s diving competition, winning both the one-meter (257.90) and three-meter (320.55) events. Manasseri continued Oakland dominance, winning the 200-yard butterfly by touching out his competition by less than 3 tenths of a second. Sullivan responded with his second individual victory in the 100-yard free competition, posting a time of 45.05. In the 200-yard backstroke event, Nick McCollum (Fairfield, Ohio) edged out Templeton to earn second place with a time of 1:55.51. Serio showed his long distance skills with a third-place finish in the 500-yard free event, touching the wall in 4:48.53, less than a second ahead of teammate David Tatarczyk (Miedziana, Poland) who touched out in 4:49.19 to earn fifth place. Horvath dominated his competition in the 200-breaststroke, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the nearest swimmer with a time of 2:04.85. The men wrapped up the meet with a two, three, four finish in the 400-yard free relay event. Tatarczyk, Ortego, McCollum and Bryon Tansel took second with a time of 3:08.60, followed by the foursome of Chris Tansel, Lynn, Serio and Andy Kellogg (Chelsea, Mich.). Finishing fourth, Brendon Ray (Holland, Mich.), Pat Dodge (Lake Orion, Mich.), Templeton and Garrett Baringhaus (Livonia, Mich.) swam as the Golden Grizzlies??? ???C??? team. Oakland will hit the water with the pleasant surroundings of home once again on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. against Wright State.
