ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 to compete in the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invite beginning at 2:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
▪ At the Jet's Pizza Invite last season, Dana Tessmer broke her own pole vault school record (11 ft., 11.25 in.) placing third. Tyler Sirut placed second in the weight throw (55 ft., 3 in.) while Tyler Beeson came in third place for Oakland (52 ft., 10 in.). Rounding out the field events, Brandon David recorded a second place finish in the long jump (22 ft., 5.25 in.) while Whitney Mergens placed fifth in the long jump (16 ft., 8.75 in.).
▪ Other noticeable performances at the Jet's Pizza Invite included Bryce Stroede, who placed first and broke his own school record and set a facility record in the 3000m with a time of 8:10.7. Corey Goodloe also recorded a first place finish and broke his own school record in the 400m (48.69) while Zach Stadnika broke the school record and finished in the heptathlon with a 4,910 point finish. Ashley Burr placed first in the 3000m (9:54.85) and Andriana Smith placed first in the 60m (7.84).
▪ Last week the team competed at the Fort Wayne Duels in Fort Wayne, Ind. and recorded eight first place finishes. Andrew Storm placed first in the long jump (22 ft., 1.5 in.), Napoleon Outlaw won the 60m (7:07) and Kenton Rivard placed first in the shot put throwing 50 ft., 4.75 in.
▪ On the women's side, Chanel Gardner won her third consecutive 200m (25.54), Andriana Smith placed first in the 60m (7.75), and Maggie Schneider snagged the first place spot in the 3000m with a time of 9:54.61.
