ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland track and field teams will travel to Youngstown State this weekend to compete in the Horizon League Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26. The two-day meet begins on Saturday with field events at noon followed by running events at 2:30 p.m., and it resumes at 11 a.m. on Sunday with field events followed by running events at 1 p.m.

2016 Indoor HL Championship highlights

The women’s team finished first in the indoor championships last year, scoring 159 points to edge second-place Youngstown State by just four points. The men's team scored 126 points to finish third.  

Both the men’s and women’s teams defeated Detroit in the indoor championships last season to clinch the Metro Series driven by Trinity Transportation for the second consecutive year.

Bryce Stroede received the Top Score award after placing first in the mile, 3000m and 5000m.

Miranda Haas received the Outstanding Performer award after placing first in the 5000m and second in the 3000m, and Rachel Levy was named Freshman of the Year and placed first in the 3000m.

Head coach Paul Rice was named Women's Team Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Grizzlies to its first-ever league title in program history.

Both men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams captured league titles.

Nicholas Girodat broke the school record in the 60m during prelims (6.81) on the first day of the meet and finished second in the event in finals. Girodat also finished second in the 200m and set a new school record (21.62).

Kendell Jefferson set a school record in the 60m and finished second (7.62).

Other top finishers included Ashley Burr in the mile (2nd, 5:02.29), Sydney Sterling in the 400m (2nd, 57.16), Sammy Mondry in the 5000m (17:42.40) and Austin Dawn in the 800m (2nd, 1:55.27).
