INDIANAPOLIS - Miranda Haas, George O’Connor and Tyler Sirut have been named to the Horizon League men's and women's indoor track and field Academic All-League teams, announced the league office on Thursday.
Haas, a redshirt senior from Pickney, Mich., has maintained a 3.91 GPA while studying biology at Oakland and was recently accepted into the dental program at the University of Michigan. She placed third in both the 3000m (10:07.62) and the 5000m (17:29.96) to help lead the woman to a third-place finish at the Horizon League Indoor Championships (Feb. 25-26), and she placed third in the 5000m (17:41.97) at the YSU National Invite (Feb. 3-4). Haas was also named to the women’s cross country Academic All-League team in the fall.
O’Connor, a redshirt senior from Croswell, Mich., has maintained a 3.54 GPA while studying communications. O’Connor had three top-10 finishes at the indoor championships, finishing fifth in the 1 mile (4:11.41), seventh in the 5000m (14:40.39) and eighth in the 3000m (8:35.59). He was named Horizon League runner of the week on Jan. 18 after placing first out of 18 runners in the mile (4:17.73) at the Jack Skoog Invite (Jan. 13). He also placed first in the 5000m (14:37.77) at the YSU National Invite.
Sirut, a junior from Macomb, Mich., has a 3.66 GPA and completed his first semester of nursing school in the fall. Sirut placed seventh and posted a season- and team-best mark of 55 ft., 4.25 in. in weight throw at the Tiffin Dragon Invite (Feb. 11). He also tabbed a second-place finish in the event (55 ft., 3 in.) at the Jets Pizza Invite (Jan. 27-28) and a third-place finish (52 ft., 8 in.) at the Jack Skoog Invite.
