ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland track and field team opens the 2016 outdoor season traveling to a pair of meets as a split-squad. One group of student-athletes will be competing at the Raleigh Relays held at the Dail Track complex in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday, March 25. Coverage will be broadcast live on ESPN3 on beginning at 9 a.m.

The second group heads to Nashville, Tenn. for the Black can Gold Invitational held at the Vanderbilt Track on Friday, Mar. 25 at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday, Mar. 26 at 12:40 p.m. ET

Meet Notes:
▪ Oakland competed in the Raleigh Relays last season
▪ This marks the first time the Golden Grizzlies will compete at the Black & Gold Invitational

Last time out, 2016 HL Indoor Championship Highlights:
▪ The women’s team won the 2016 Horizon League Championship for the first title in program history
▪ The men’s team placed third losing out on second place due to a relay disqualification
Miranda Haas was named Outstanding Performer winning the 5000m (17:36.67) and placing second in the 3000m (10:04.87)
Rachel Levy earned Freshman of the Year honors winning the 3000m (9:58.19) and placed third in the mile (5:02.55)
▪ Oakland placed 5-of 6 runners on the podium in the 3000m with Sammy Mondry (3rd-10:06.61), Alana Koepf (5th-10:12.21), Burr (6th-10:12.68)
▪ The women's distance medley team of Kailey Weingartz, Elizabeth Girardot, Courtney Stauffer and Ashley Burr (12:22.17) placed first
Bryce Stroede earned the Top Scorer Award winning three titles in the Mile (4:05.04-Horizon League and School Record), 3000m (8:23.65), and 5000m (14:34.96).
▪ Christopher Scott also won the 800m (1:54.21) helping the men to an overall third place finish.
▪ The men's DMR team of George O'Connor, Zach Joyce, Cameron Karagitz and Andrew Bowman (10:03.31) finished first
▪ Head coach Paul Rice was named Women's Team Coach of the Year
▪ Both teams rolled past rival University of Detroit Mercy to clinch the Metro Series driven by Trinity Transportation for the second straight year.

2015 Raleigh Relays Highlights:
Candice Mack broke the then 400m school record with a time of 57.18 to finish 16th out of 119
Gino Vitella finished seventh out of 52 competitors in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 52 inches
Aaron Davis also placed sixth in the 200m with a time of 22.34
▪ The women's 4x100 relay team of Serena San Cartier,  Jefferson, Sydney Sterling and Mack finished 16th out of 39 teams with a time of 48.45
