TRACK AND FIELD TRAVELS TO THREE MEETS THIS WEEKEND

ROCHESTER, Mich. - After hosting two consecutive home meets, the Oakland track and field team returns to the road to travel to three meets this weekend. The team will appear in the Jesse Owens Invite at Ohio State, the Georgia Tech Invite at Georgia Tech and the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia.

Start times:

Jesse Owens Invite: Friday at 2 p.m. (field events) and 7 p.m. (running events), Saturday at 10 a.m. (field events) and noon (running events)

Georgia Tech Invite: Friday at 11 a.m. (field events) and 6 p.m. (running events), Saturday at 11 a.m. (field events) and 1 p.m. (running events)

Virginia Challenge: Friday at 11 a.m. (field events) and 1:30 p.m. (running events), Saturday at 9 a.m. (running events) and 10 a.m. (field events)

Outdoor season highlights:

The Golden Grizzlies opened outdoor season on March 24-25 at the North Carolina State Raleigh Relays. The team has since traveled to Tennessee and Miami (Ohio) before hosting Detroit Mercy in a dual meet and seven schools at the Golden Grizzly Invite.

Oakland men and women both defeated Detroit Mercy in the 12th annual dual meet on April 8.

Ashley Burr and Bryce Stroede were named Horizon League Runners of the Week on Wednesday after recording two of Oakland's nine first-place finishes at the Golden Grizzly Invite on April 15. Aaron Davis also earned runner of the week honors after first out of 42 runners in the 200m (21.25) and running the second leg in the 4x100 relay that placed first and set a new school record (40.74) at the Tennessee Rust Buster.

Gino Vitella has broke the school record in both discus and shot put this season, with a mark of 170 ft., 4 in. at the Tennessee Rust Buster in discus and a throw of 58 ft., 8.75 in. at the Detroit Dual.

Bryce Stroede broke the school record in the 3000m (8:26.01) and Rachel Levy broke the school record in the 3000m (9:43.88) at the Detroit Dual.

Dana Tessmer broke her own school record in pole vault at the Golden Grizzly Invite with a mark of 12 ft., 1.5 in.

The Golden Grizzlies travel to Hillsdale for the Gina Relays (April 28-29) before heading to Youngstown State for the Horizon League Outdoor Championships (May 5-8). Both teams finished third in the outdoor championships last season.
