ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland track and field team heads to Valparaiso, Ind. for the 2016 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Warren G. Hoger Track. Competition is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8.

Meet Notes:
Entering the outdoor championships, Oakland has many student-athletes ranked in the top-three of the Horizon League’s top marks
Bryce Stroede has the league’s top 1500m mark (3:46.13) and 5000m time (14:03.61)
Nicholas Girodat (10.41) has the league’s top 100m time and second 200m time (21.37)
Chris Scott (1:52.20) and Geoffrey Williston (1:53.47) rank first and second in the 800m respectively
Gino Vitella has the second ranked shot put throw (56 ft., 10 in.)
▪ On the women’s side, Ashley Burr (17:14.04) has the league’s top 5000m time
Chelsea Savage has the top ranked hammer throw (154 ft.)
Sydney Sterling (56.19) ranks second in the league in the 400m
Lydia Stanley (2:14.66) has the league’s second best 800m time
Karli Keur (4:37.70) ranks second in the 1500m
Meghan Daly (116 ft., 10 in.) ranks second in the javelin
Kendell Jefferson has the third ranked 100m time (12.11)

2015 HL Outdoor Championships Highlights:
▪ Oakland hosted the 2015 outdoor championships for the first time at the new track & field complex with both team finishing a program best third place
▪ The men's 110 and women's 101 points were the highest school outdoor point total in program history
▪ The Golden Grizzlies had a total of six individual first place finishes including Miranda Haas (5000m-11:03.16), Stroede (1500m-3:49.00), Serena San Cartier (100m-14.04), Aaron Davis (200m-21.87), Burr (5000m-18:00.17), David Koponen (800m-1:53.80)
▪ Oakland had a total of 28 podium finishes
▪ San Cartier also placed third in the 200m dash (25.26)
▪ Davis also finished third in the 100m dash (11.14)
▪ Burr also took second in the 10,000m (37:31.57)
Chris Scott placed second in the 800m (1:53.81)
Andrew Bowman (9:23.87), George O'Connor (9:32.55) and Matt Ritter (9:39.69) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively in the 3000m steeplechase
Meghan Daly finished fourth in the javelin (113 ft., 11 in.)
▪ Vitella finished second in the shot put (56ft., 4.0 in)
Megan Simientowski finished sixth in the pole vault (10 ft, 6.0 in.)
Meagan Joiner finished fifth in the Heptathlon (3734 points)
Matthew Jordan placed fourth in the triple Jump (47 ft, 6.50 in) and sixth in the long jump (21 ft, 10 in.)
