NEW ORLEANS - The Oakland women's track and field team garnered the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field Team honor, announced the USTFCCCA today. The Golden Grizzlies are one of only 171 Division I teams in the country to garner the award.
"It's great to see the ladies honored with this award," said head coach Paul Rice. "The academic levels of our track and field athletes have been steadily improving for several years. Recognition like this should continue to serve as motivation for our athletes to continue to excel in the classroom."
Teams earn the honor by earning a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better on a 4.0 scale. OU finished the 2011-12 season with a 3.19 GPA. The women finished eighth at both league meets this season while setting 14 school records highlighted by Micah Jones becoming Oakland's first individual champion in school history in the long jump at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
