ROCHESTER -- Paul Rice has been elevated to Director of Track and Field announced by Director of Athletics Jeff Konya Thursday. Rice will remain head coach of the cross country program.
"I think it is the best of both worlds for Paul," said Konya. "He gets to direct track and field operations but he also gets to be the head coach of the cross country program which is right in his wheelhouse. It is a great situation for him personally and professionally."
Under his new role, Rice will supervise all operations of the track and field program while coordinating all recruiting, fundraising and alumni engagement.
"It has been a pleasure and a challenge to be the head coach of the track and field programs since it's inception in 2006," said Rice. "I am extremely proud of what we have built here at Oakland in such a short period of time. The move to Director of Track and Field is exciting for me as I use my skills in different ways to continue to move the program forward. I thank Jeff Konya and Holly Kerstner for their forward thinking and creative plans to help us in offering a top notch student-athlete experience in our program."
During Rice's tenure with the track and field program, the women's team won the 2016 indoor league title, and both teams recently finished runner-up at the outdoor league championships, the highest-ever finish for either team. Two student-athletes have also competed at the NCAA Track and Field Finals as well.
Rice and the women's cross country team begin the 2017 season going for their third consecutive league title while the men will look to win its second league title in three years.
