2016 CROSS COUNTRY SEASON IN REVIEW

ROCHESTER, Mich. –
The 2016 season was another successful in program history as the women’s team repeated as Horizon League champions while Bryce Stroede and Rachel Levy won the program’s first HL individual titles.

Women’s Team Highlights:
▪ Won the Horizon League title for the second consecutive season
▪ Won three separate events for the fourth time in the past seven seasons
▪ Finished in the top-five in four events including fourth at the 61st Annual Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 30) and fifth at the Pre-National Invite (Oct. 15)
▪ Finished the season ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll
▪ Earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors for the 11th consecutive season with an overall team GPA of 3.41

Women’s Individual Highlights:
Rachel Levy won the Horizon League championship with a 6K time of 21:35.4 calming the program’s first individual HL title, Miranda Haas finished second followed by Alana Koepf in fourth and Ashley Burr in sixth
▪ Four Golden Grizzlies earned All-Horizon League First-Team honors for the second consecutive season: Levy, Haas, Koepf and Burr
▪ Levy was named Horizon League Runner of the Week for consecutive weeks after finishing seventh out of 222 runners in the Gold 5K race at the 61st Annual Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational and winning the Golden Grizzly Short Course Dual versus CMU (Oct. 7). She also won the Golden Grizzly Invite (Sept. 2)
▪ Burr and Haas finished second and third respectively at the Golden Grizzly Invite and Short Course Dual versus CMU
▪ Head Coach Paul Rice won the Horizon League Coach of the Year award for Women’s Cross Country for the second consecutive season

Men’s Team Highlights:
▪ Finished fifth at the Horizon League Championships
▪ Finished first at the Golden Grizzly Invite (Sept. 2) and Golden Grizzly Short Course Dual versus CMU (Oct. 7)
▪ Placed 12th Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational and fifth at the Pre-National Invite
▪ Earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors for the 11th consecutive season with an overall team GPA of 3.22

Men’s Individual Highlights:
Bryce Stroede won the Horizon League championship with a 10K time of 25:01.3 calming the program’s first individual HL title
▪ Stroede and Connor Wuori earned All-Horizon League First-Team honors
▪ Stroede was named Horizon League Runner of the Week after the winning the Golden Grizzly Short Course Dual versus CMU. He also won the Golden Grizzly Invite
▪ Wuori placed seventh at the Pre-National Invite
