OU Cross Country -- 2000
The Oakland University men's cross country finished it's first season in the new millennium with an impressive record. The Golden Grizzlies finished four of their eight meets in the top five. Golden Grizzly Kurt Brinker finished six of the eight races as OU's top runner, while Brandon Fisk finished the other two races in that lead spot.
The Golden Grizzlies opened up their season in Detroit at the Motor City Classic hosted by Wayne State on September 2. OU finished the meet in second place out of four teams. Brinker led the Grizzlies in the 4.6 mile race as he came in third out of 31 runners with a time of 25:05.26. OU's Fisk took fifth place with a time of 2519.79 and Luke Williams' time of 2536.63 was good for sixth place.
Oakland's next race was also in the city of Detroit as OU participated in the Tommy Titan Classic hosted by Detroit Mercy September 9. Oakland finished the four mile race in sixth place out of the nine participating teams. Fisk paced OU as he finished 21st out of 77 runners with a time of 21:38.
Kenosha, Wisconsin was the site of the Grizzlies next race, the Midwest Collegiate Meet September 16. The Grizzlies finished 14th place out of 34 teams. Brinker led OU as he took 38th place out of 380 participants with a time of 2629.
Oakland came back to Michigan to run in the Grand Valley State Tower Trail Classic September 23. The Grizzlies finished in second place out of seven teams. Brinker paced OU as he took fourth place out of 75 runners with a time of 27:00.27. Fisk finished in sixth place overall for the Grizzlies with a time of 27:11.20.
Oakland's fifth meet of the year was the Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University. The race took place at Montrose Harbor in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 2000. OU placed 15th out of the 42 participating teams. Brinker led the Grizzlies for the third straight time as he finished in 41st place out of 444 runners with a time of 26:20.
OU traveled to Kalamazoo to take part in the Michigan Intercollegiate Meet October 13. Fisk led the way for OU as he finished seventh overall with a time of 26:06. Oakland crossed the finish line in third place out of five teams.
The Grizzlies traveled Macomb, Illinois to participate in their second Mid-Continent Conference Championship on October 28. For the fifth time this season Brinker led the way for OU as he finished the 8K race in a time of 25:55 (17th).
The Grizzlies wraped up the 2000 season in Ypsilanti as OU took part in the Great Lakes Regional Meet hosted by Eastern Michigan on November 11. Oakland finished in 21st place out of 31 teams. Brinker once again led all Grizzlies as he ran the 10K race in a time of 33:48 good for 101st place.
