ROCHESTER, Mich. - Brett Impemba went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Mike Brosseau drove in four runs to lead the Oakland baseball team (5-18) to a 14-2 win over Olivet College (8-7) in the home opener at the OU Baseball Field on Wednesday. The Golden Grizzlies outhit the Comets 10-4.
"Guys were excited to play a home game and we had a lot of success here last year," said OU coach John Musachio. "It was a lot of fun out there today. Pitchers threw strikes and we were real aggressive."
Left-handed pitcher Jason Hager (1-4) picked up the win in relief today, throwing 1.0 inning and struck out one. RHP Lucas Scocchia earned a no decision with the start, going 3.0 innings, allowing two hits, 1 run, no earned runs and fanned three.
Todd Dunham added a 2-for-5 performance at the plate with a double, driving in two runs, while Trent Drumheller drove in three runs for the Golden Grizzlies. Robby Enslen scored three runs and Nolan Jacoby tallied his team-best eighth double of the season.
With the score tied 1-1, Oakland scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bust the game open. Impemba singled to left field to score a run and Drumheller had a sacrifice fly to right field to plate another. Dunham then doubled to left-center field to score two more as the Grizzlies led 7-1.
OU batted around in the fifth inning and tacked on five more runs on two hits and an error. Drumheller, Impemba and Brosseau each drove in runs for Oakland in the inning as the lead advanced to 11. The Golden Grizzlies would score two more runs in the sixth inning to win by 12.
The Grizzlies will open Summit League play up at Western Illinois on Friday. The scheduled doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. ET.
