Oakland Pounds Out 23-7 Win Over Olivet

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Mike Carson had two home runs and drove in seven runs to lead Oakland (11-25) in a 23-7win over Olivet (11-16) on Wednesday at the OU Baseball Field. The Golden Grizzlies had 21 hits and four home runs in the win.
"This was a team win for us today," said Oakland head coach John Musachio. "I was very pleased with the intensity and focus that the team showed from the first pitch to the final out today."
Carson hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat to help Oakland take the lead with six runs in the first inning. Aaron Cieslak had a two-run home run in the second and Carson hit his second two-run homer in the fifth to put Oakland in front 13-0. OU never trailed and scored 10 runs over the final three innings.
Carson was 4-for-4, with seven RBIs and scored four runs scored as Oakland set a season-high in runs and hits. Ian Yetsko and Kyle Bobolts both went 3-for-5 with three RBIs each. Cieslak was 3-for-4 and scored twice. A total of 10 different OU players had a hit and six posted multi-hit performances.
Tim Ryan led off the game with a single to extend his seven-game hitting streak. He also stole two bases, which leaves him just four stolen bases shy of tying the school record. Doug Beath hit a solo home run in the seventh, the first of his career. The Golden Grizzlies also showed patience at the plate by drawing 11 walks.
Olivet finished with 11 hits. Peter Panos and Andrew Engle had two hits each to lead the Comets.
Jake Paulson (2-0) started the predetermined staff game and threw three scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and posted two strikeouts while earning the win. Oakland used seven pitchers that combined for 11 strikeouts and just five walks. Sean Alexander (3-2) suffered the loss for Olivet.
OU is back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Nebraska-Omaha starting at noon. The Golden Grizzlies will play a three-game series against the Mavericks.
