DAYTON, Ohio - Matt DiLeo went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs hitting his third home run of the season in the top of the 10th inning leading Oakland to a 5-4 game one win over Wright State on Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies (8-27, 5-9 HL) battled in the nightcap racking up 11 hits but could not hold on as WSU rallied for a 7-5 win.
Nate Schweers picked up the game one win in relief going 2.0 innings with two strikeouts while Jared Burkert secured his third save of the season. Starter Connor Fannon turned in a solid effort tossing 5.1 innings while striking out six.
Zach Sterry put Oakland on the board with a RBI double followed by a RBI-single by DiLeo giving the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.
Trailing 3-2, Oakland took advantage of WSU miscues as Mike McGee reached on an error scoring DiLeo from third tying the game in the sixth. Emerson Misch then reached first, advanced to third on a throwing error and later scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for a 5-4 lead.
After WSU tied the game at 4-4, DiLeo's shot in the 10th sealed the win.
In the game two, both teams tallied 11 hits led by Sterry who hit his 13th home run of the season going 2-for-5 with a RBI and two runs along with Tyler Pagano who hit 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. DiLeo also went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Misch and Tyler Trovinger also added two hits each.
DiLeo's two-run single and Sterry's home run pulled the Golden Grizzlies within a run at 4-3 in the sixth. Oakland then moved ahead, 5-4, on a RBI fielder's choice by McGee and WSU throwing error.
However, the Raiders rallied with three runs on three hits in the eighth to earn the split.
Oakland returns home for a doubleheader against Milwaukee on Sunday, April 23rd at noon and 3 p.m.
