ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Nolan Jacoby's walk-off home run to lead off the ninth inning gave the Oakland University baseball team (12-24) a 4-3 victory over Western Michigan (18-25) on Tuesday at the OU Baseball Field. The Golden Grizzlies overturned a 3-0 deficit to win in come-from-behind fashion and clinched a season sweep over the Broncos.

"Nolan came through for us in a big way," said Oakland head coach John Musachio. "I am really proud of our team's effort today, especially their ability to shake off the long road trip to and from South Dakota State. I also thought our pitching staff did an excellent job to hold Western Michigan to just two earned runs"

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Jacoby ended the game on one swing as he sent the ball over the fence in right field. It was the first home run of the year for Jacoby who finished the day 1-for-4.

Oakland tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Senior D.J. Jarrad hit a leadoff double and came in to score on an error by WMU pitcher, Patrick Borlick. On a successful bunt by senior Ryan Waldhart, Borlick tried to rush a throw to get Jarrad a third, the ball hit Jarrad who was already on the bag and rolled away, allowing Jarrad to score and tie the game.

Western Michigan took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning and appeared to be cruising behind starting pitcher Chris Bossenbery, who did not allow a hit through the first three innings.

Waldhart patiently drew a one-out walk in the fourth inning and senior Aaron Wick broke up the no-hit bid with a two-out single past a diving WMU second baseman. Bossenbery tried to catch Waldhart away from second base, but his throw was off the mark and both runners advanced to scoring position. Oakland junior Aaron Cieslak delivered with a sharp single up the middle to drive in both runners making it 3-2.

Senior Jake Arendsen (1-0) struck out two batters in the ninth inning and held WMU hitless to earn his first win of the season. Oakland used five different pitchers and scattered 10 hits for just two earned runs, while striking out seven WMU batters. Borlick (0-1) suffered the loss in relief of Bossenbery. Wick was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Oakland, while Cieslak's two RBIs were a game-high. Patrick Duncan was 3-for-4 to lead Western Michigan. The Broncos outhit the Golden Grizzlies 10-7.

Oakland returns to action on Friday at 3 p.m. hosting Oral Roberts in the first game of a four-game Summit League series. It is the final home Summit League series for OU this season. The team will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday.
