FARGO, N.D. - Mike Brosseau went 2-for-4 and drove in a team-best five runs, while right-handed pitcher Chris Van Dyke (4-3) tossed 6.0 strong innings, giving up five hits, one run and struck out four, to lead the Oakland baseball team (14-28, 9-9) to a 13-7 win over North Dakota State (19-20, 6-8) on Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field. The Golden Grizzlies won the final three games to take the series.
"Just a terrific team effort today," said OU coach John Musachio. "Not many teams come in and win a series in Fargo. (Chris) Van Dyke was outstanding, we played strong defense and had outstanding at bats all day long. (Spencer) Marentette, (Mike) Brosseau and (Mike) Carson came up with huge RBI base hits to put them away in the ninth."
Oakland led 8-1 heading into into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bison rallied for four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to get within one run, 8-7. The Golden Grizzlies responded with five runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by a two-out RBI double by Brosseau and two-RBI single by Mike Carson.
Carson finished the game 3-for-6, with a double and two RBIs. Spencer Marentette drove in three runs and went 2-for-5, while Kyle Bobolts finished 1-for-3, with two runs scored and two walks, one intentional.
Relievers Kevin Korkate and Russell Luxton Jr. slammed the door for the Golden Grizzlies in the eighth and ninth innings. Luxton tallied two saves in the series and did not allow a base runner in 2.1 innings pitched.
OU scored 13 runs, on 10 hits and committed two errors, while NDSU scored seven runs, on 12 hits and had two errors.
The Golden Grizzlies will host Central Michigan (19-25) for a midweek non-conference game this Wednesday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
