CHICAGO -- Zach Sterry went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs while Aaron Dehn picked up his first win of the season as the Oakland baseball team defeated first-place UIC 7-3 in the second game of its doubleheader Friday at Curtis Granderson Stadium. Dehn earned a quality start by tossing 6.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out three Flames (31-11,17-4 HL) batters.
Coming into the seventh inning, the Golden Grizzlies (11-32, 8-13 HL) had just one hit before exploding for a seven-run inning that started with Mike McGee getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded followed by Ryan Fitzgerald and Emerson Misch drawing back-to-back walks to tie the game at 3-3. Tyler Janish reached base safely on a bunt then Sterry doubled down the left field line to drive in two more. Tyler Pagano capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly RBI. Nate Schweers came in to relieve Dehn in the seventh and threw 3.0 scoreless innings allowing just four hits and striking out four batters to pick up his second save.
In game one, Emerson Misch went 2-for-4 hitting his second home run of the season to finish with two RBIs while swiping his sixth stolen base of the season in a 13-2 loss.
Oakland will travel to Valparaiso Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
