SHREVEPORT, La. - Senior Aaron Wick, senior D.J. Jarrad, and sophomore Mike Carson all picked up three hits in the nightcap to spur the Oakland University baseball team (19-30) to a 14-7 victory, capping a doubleheader sweep of Centenary (11-32) after OU picked up an 8-3 win earlier in the day.

Carson drove in six runs in the nightcap.

In the opener, seniors Tommy Jablonski and Dan Gliot both drove in a pair of runs, and sophomore Russell Luxton scattered eight hits over seven strong innings to propel the Oakland University baseball team (18-30) to an 8-3 win over Centenary (11-30) in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader.

Jablonski and sophomore Nolan Jacoby both picked up a pair of hits in the win.

Oakland got on the board immediately in the top of the first inning as Wick drew a bases-loaded walk, and Jablonski scored on a wild pitch to put Oakland ahead 2-0 after the opening frame. Centenary cut the OU lead to 2-1 in the fifth, but the Golden Grizzlies responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, as Jacoby drove in a run with an RBI single. A Centenary error led to the Grizzlies' second run of the inning, giving Oakland a 4-1 advantage.



The Gents would narrow the gap to 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI grounder and a solo homer, but Oakland pounded out five hits in the top of the eighth, as Gliot drove in a run with an RBI double, Jarrad added an RBI single, and Jablonski drove in a pair with an RBI double of his own to set the final score of the opening game at 8-3.

Sophomore Kevin Korkate and senior Jake Arendsen each pitched one perfect inning in relief, sealing the win for Luxton (4-4), who walked two and fanned two.

In the nightcap, it was Centenary that jumped ahead with a two-run first inning. OU narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the top of the second on an RBI grounder by junior John Estes, but the Gents tacked on three runs in the bottom of the frame to extend the Centenary lead to 5-1.

The Golden Grizzlies came back in a big way in the top of the third, knotting the game at 5-5 as Carson belted a grand slam. Oakland continued adding runs in the inning, using an RBI single by junior Aaron Cieslak, an RBI triple by Estes, and an RBI single by Wick to cap a seven-run inning and give OU an 8-5 lead after the top of the third.

Carson gave OU another run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single, pushing the Golden Grizzlies' lead to 9-5. Centenary scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 9-6, but Oakland tacked on a pair in the top of the sixth on bases-loaded walks to Cieslak and Gliot.

The Golden Grizzlies added three runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Dunham, another RBI single by Carson, and an RBI single by Wick to set the score at its final margin, 14-7.

Cieslak and Estes both drove in a pair of runs in the win, with Estes picking up a pair of hits.

Junior Greg Welke improved to 3-7 on the season, allowing 10 hits in 4.0 innings of work, allowing six runs, five earned. He fanned six and walked one. Junior Brady Adamek was solid in relief, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing one run on two hits, fanning two.

The Golden Grizzlies will conclude the 2011 season on Saturday, as they look for the sweep over the Gents. First pitch from Shehee Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
