INDIANAPOLIS -- Tyler Pagano was named to the All-Horizon League First Team, Zach Sterry and Emerson Misch were selected to the all-league second team and Tyler Trovinger garnered all-freshman team honors, as voted on by the conference’s head coaches and announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Pagano, a senior from Pickerington, Ohio, appeared in all 53 games in centerfield and as the designated hitter this season and dominated at the plate once beginning league play. He finished the regular season leading the Horizon League in hits (51) and batting average (.398) and was second in total bases (88), doubles (13) and slugging percentage (.688). Overall, Pagano finished his senior campaign hitting .330 with 10 home runs, 17 doubles and driving in 44 RBIs.
Misch, a redshirt-junior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., completed his first season with the Golden Grizzlies hitting .316 with 17 doubles, 25 RBIs while scoring 33 runs. He appeared in 46 games this season at centerfield and led the league in plate appearances during conference play with (132).
Sterry, a senior from Mansfield, Ohio, led Oakland in nearly every offensive category all season, hitting .346 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs and 44 RBIs in 48 games. He ranked inside the Horizon League’s top-10 in seven major offensive categories and reached base safely for 38 consecutive games from Feb. 24 to May 7.
Trovinger, a Norton Shoes, Mich. native, became the everyday shortstop starting in 44 of 46 games he appeared in. He hit .228 with five doubles, two home runs and drove in 15 RBIs while ranking third in the league in walks with 35. Trovinger also recorded the most putouts in a single game this season among league players with nine against Valpo on April 14.
The Golden Grizzlies will be the No. 5 seed in the Horizon League Tournament beginning Wednesday, May 24, hosted by UIC, and will face No. 4 seed Valparaiso at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN3. Oakland won three of its five games against the Crusaders this season.
