ROCHESTER, Mich. - It's an all-OU matchup as the Oakland University baseball team prepares to host the annual Black and Gold scrimmage starting on Sunday at 1 p.m. The best-of-three series will take place on Sunday, Wednesday (1 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.) at the OU Baseball Field.
"Our young men have had a very intense and competitive fall," said Oakland head coach John Musachio. "The teams are evenly matched and this should make for a great conclusion to a successful fall season. This Black and Gold series is all about pride."
The Golden Grizzlies will split the squad in to two teams. The Gold squad is coached by John Toth and captained by senior D.J. Jarrad, junior Greg Welke and senior Aaron Wick. The Black squad will be led by coaches Aaron Barrows and Matt Plante and captained by senior Tommy Jablonski and junior Tim Ryan.
The assistant coaches drafted the two teams in a fair process; however, the Gold team is also battling history after losing the series in the last four years. Since the coaches drafted the two teams, Oakland has held separate practices with each squad. The opposing unit is not allowed to scout the other team during their practice time, as the two squads vie for bragging rights over the course of the upcoming season.
Admission is free to the general public for all games during the Black and Gold World Series.
