ROCHESTER, Mich.- The annual intrasquad Black and Gold series serves as Oakland’s conclusion to the fall season and this year Team Gold took down Team Black three games to one.

Players were drafted into two teams with assistant coaches as their managers, and then played a best-of-five series over the course of eight days, giving the student-athletes one last opportunity to play outside before the winter months.

Game 1: Black 6 - Gold 0

Tyler Palm started on the mound for Team Black, going 2.2 innings against Cole Gibson of Team Gold, who pitched in 1.2 innings. Sophomore Nate Green hit two doubles in three attempts for Team Black en route to a shut out win. Mike Brosseau stood out for Team Gold, going 2-for-4, including a double.

Game 2: Gold 21 – Black 18

The second matchup turned out to be a shoot out, with six different members of Team Black recording at least two hits and six players on Team Gold recording three hits. Jordan Jackson and Brett Impemba each hit a home run for Team Black, while Mike Brosseau continued to shine for Team Gold, with three hits, including a double and a home run.

Game 3: Gold 12 – Black 9

Game three featured another competitive match up, with Austin Sherry putting up an impressive performance for Team Black, as he retired five of the six hitters he faced.  Joe Buchalski hit a double and a triple in three plate appearances for Team Gold, and Mike Brosseau went 3-5 with two doubles, leading Team Gold to a three score victory.

Game 4: Gold 6 – Black 1

Team Gold wrapped up the Black and Gold Series with a convincing 6-1 win, and redshirt senior Luke McCatty was a major factor in the outcome as he started the game pitching three scoreless innings, including two strikeouts and two walks. Collin Gee threw two scoreless innings for Team Gold, while Matt DiLeo reached base in each of his three plate appearances for Team Black, and Nate Schweers recorded 2 strikeouts in three innings of work.

The two teams come back together after the Black and Gold series and begin the process of getting ready as a team for the 2016 season, which begins in February.
