ROCHESTER, Mich. - Travis Bader posted a game-high 24 points on 6 of 8 long-range shooting, while Duke Mondyscored 13 points and dished out seven assists to lead Oakland past Davenport (NAIA), 80-56, in a men's basketball exhibition game on Tuesday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies led for the entire game.
"I'm pretty happy with the way we played tonight," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "There wasn't one thing tonight that I wasn't happy with."
Drew Valentinewas the final OU player in double figures, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Davenport's Dominez Burnett finished with 16 points to lead the Panthers.
OU scored 27 points off 18 turnovers and led by as many as 32 points at the midway point of the second half. The Golden Grizzlies shot 44.3 percent for the game (27-61) and 40 percent from three (8-20). OU held a 40-32 advantage on the glass.
After jumping out to a 15-2 lead in the first half, Oakland's lead fell to eight points on two occasions, with the last time coming at 26-18 with 6:24 remaining until halftime. OU outscored the Panthers 10-5 over the final six minutes to take a 13-point advantage at the break, 36-23.
The Grizzlies extended their lead all the way to 27 points through the first six minutes of the second half to put the game away. Oakland held Davenport to 17 percent (1-6) shooting from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes and outscored the Panthers 18-4 from the free-throw line.
The Golden Grizzlies will host Defiance College in their last exhibition game next Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. inside the O'rena. All exhibition games are free admission.
