ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Kendrick Nunn scored 36 points, shooting 11 of 21 from the field including 5-for-11 from beyond the arc while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists as the Oakland men’s basketball team topped Fort Wayne 85-71 Friday night at the O’rena. The Golden Grizzlies played in front of the largest home opener crowd (3,579) since joining the Horizon League.
Martez Walker added 17 points and four rebounds while Nick Daniels also scored in double-digits with 12 points. Isaiah Brock recorded a game-high 12 rebounds and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, scoring eight points, plus had four blocks.
Oakland (1-0) shot 50 percent from the field on the day, including a blistering 62 percent in the first half, missing just nine shots. The Golden Grizzlies held the Mastodons (0-1) to just one three-pointer in and 27 percent shooting overall (10 of 36) the first half.
Oakland will remain in Rochester for its next game, hosting New Orleans Monday Nov 13 at 7 p.m.
