ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Oakland men's basketball team will host Northern Kentucky for its league home opener sponsored by Marquardt, Friday, Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. inside the O'rena. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and the match-up can also be heard on WDFN-AM (1130) with Neal Ruhl (pxp) and Matt Dery (analyst) on the call.
Oakland will host its annual Mitten Toss during halftime of the game. Mitten Toss, a longtime tradition of Oakland swimming and diving, encourages fans to bring new or gently used mittens or gloves to be thrown onto the court at halftime. All items donated will go to The Baldwin Center, a nonprofit organization that serves to feed, clothe, educate and empower the Pontiac community.
The mittens will be presented to Baldwin Center representatives at the men's basketball game on Sunday, Jan. 7 against Wright State as part of Pontiac Day, which includes discounted tickets for Pontiac residents. Sunday's game is set for a 3 p.m. start.
