ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland (17-15) will make its fourth consecutive postseason appearance as the Golden Grizzlies accepted a bid to participate in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, announced by head coach Greg Kampe on Thursday. OU will host the opening round game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Athletics Center O'rena.
"I'm very excited to reach postseason for the fourth consecutive year,"said Kampe. "It is quite an accomplishment when you consider who we lost off last year's team. I am happy for our players and to be able to host makes it even sweeter."
Oakland finished 5-2 over its final seven games and won five straight league games to end the regular season. The Golden Grizzlies feature the nation's leading scorer in Reggie Hamilton at 25.7 points per game. Hamilton has scored 30 or more points in seven consecutive games and broke The Summit League single-season scoring record with 821 points this year.
OU leads the league in scoring for the third straight year with close to 80 points per game. The Golden Grizzlies faced eight 20-win teams this season and went 4-5 in games decided by five points or less. Oakland finished third in The Summit League standings at 11-7.
The Grizzlies will find out their opponent Monday morning after the NCAA tournament and NIT bids are announced. Tickets are on sale for the postseason game at ticketmaster.com and OUgrizzlies.com. Seats can be purchased for as low as $7.
