ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Men's basketball player Martez Walker has been named Oakland Student Athlete of the Week for the week of March 13-19 after averaging 24 points 7.5 rebounds and shooting 45 percent from the field in Oakland's two game in the NIT last week.
Walker, a redshirt junior from Detroit, Mich., scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Oakland overcame a 20-point deficit to beat Clemson 74-69 on March 14 in the opening round of the NIT. On March 19, he hit four 3s and had 25 points for the Golden Grizzlies as they fell to Richmond 87-83 in the second round. The Golden Grizzlies end the season with 25 wins, second-most in program history. Oakland went 11-3 on the road, tied for fourth-most in the country this season and tied a single-season school record.
