ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland's Corey Petros was named Academic All-Horizon League, announced by the league office on Monday. A senior from Macomb, Mich., Petros earns the distinction for the second consecutive season and will graduate this May with his MBA.
Petros was named All-Horizon League second team after leading the conference in rebounding (8.2) for the second straight year. He posted a league-high .602 field goal percentage and became the third player in school history to surpass 1,600 points and 1,000 rebounds. Petros made 102 consecutive starts to end his career and broke the all-time school record with 409 offensive rebounds.
A 6-foot-10 center, Petros scored a career-best 34 points at UIC (2/4) by making 15 of 22 shots from the floor. He added a season-high 13 rebounds to post one of his 10 double-doubles and was named Horizon League Player of the Week (2/9).
Joining Petros on the men's basketball academic all-league team were Vashil Fernandez (Valpo), Kendall Griffin (Wright State), Alec Peters (Valpo) and Cody Wichmann (Milwaukee).
