CLEVELAND - Oakland's Corey Petros was named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team, announced on Friday. Petros, a native of Macomb, Mich., earned his undergraduate degree in finance and is scheduled to graduate with his MBA this May.
"This is definitely a blessing to be honored for the scholar-athlete award," said Petros. "It's very rewarding when you can be honored for your academics as well as your athletics."
Petros boasts a 3.43 GPA and garnered Academic All-Horizon League honors for the second consecutive season. He is a four-time academic honor roll selection and earned the Haier Achievement Award.
A 6-foot-10 center, Petros made 102 consecutive starts to end his career and finished fifth all-time with 135 games played. He led the Horizon League for the second straight season in rebounding (8.2) and finished with a league-best .602 field goal percentage, 10th in the country. Petros became the third player in school history to surpass 1,600 points and 1,000 rebounds, breaking the all-time school record with 409 offensive rebounds.
