SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Oakland men's basketball has been named one of five teams for the campus round games leading up to the third annual Hoophall Miami Invitational announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
"Historically we've played the best teams in the country, and we do that for many reasons, one of the reasons is to let our student-athletes play in great venues," Head Coach Greg Kampe said. "We believe we are going to have a team that has a chance to be special next year and having the chance to play at Syracuse and Fog Allen Fieldhouse is something our kids are going to remember the rest of their lives."
The event will feature round robin play for five teams in a two-week span leading up to the main event at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami featuring a doubleheader matchup of Syracuse and Kansas, in addition to Miami and Princeton.
Teams scheduled to participate in this year's campus round games as part of the multi-team event are: Kansas (Big 12 Conference), Oakland (Horizon League), Syracuse (Atlantic Coast Conference), Texas Southern (Southwestern Athletic Conference) and Toledo (Mid-American Conference).
This past year, Oakland finished 25-9 and won its final nine regular season league games to capture the regular season Horizon League title. The Golden Grizzlies made their first-ever appearance in the NIT, rallying from 20 points down in the second half at Clemson to win 74-69.
