ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University men's basketball head coach Greg Kampe announced this morning that Oakland and the University of Tennessee have agreed to play in a three-year contract with the Volunteers coming to the Athletics Center O'Rena in 2011-12. OU will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. in 2010-11 and 2012-13.
"We see an Elite Eight team in Tennessee coming into our arena as a real coup, and great for our fans," said Kampe. "We are very excited that the game will be in the O'Rena and I want to thank Bruce Pearl. Bruce and I go back a long way, dating back to when he coached at Southern Indiana and the Division II days when we used to compete against each other in the NCAA tournament.
"I'd also like to thank Tony Jones, Bruce's Associate Head Coach, who was really the driving force in getting this done. Tony is a Detroit guy and wants to bring Tennessee to his hometown. I am very thankful to Tony and to Bruce."
The Golden Grizzlies will face UT on Tuesday, December 14 or Wednesday, December 15 this season in Knoxville. The rest of the 2010-11 schedule will be released in the upcoming weeks.
