Oakland to Compete in Chicago Invitational Challenge

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University will compete in the Fifth Annual Chicago Invitational Challenge, Nov. 21-27, announced by head coach Greg Kampe on Thursday. The Golden Grizzlies will face preseason No. 2 Purdue (26-9) and Wright State (20-12) on the road before taking on Southern University (4-19) in Chicago.

OU (26-9) will take on the Boilermakers on Nov. 21 in West Lafayette, Ind. and face WSU on Nov. 23 in Dayton, Ohio in preliminary rounds. The Grizzlies and SU Jaguars will battle in the early session on Nov. 26 at the Sears Centre Arena. The winner of that match-up will meet the winner of Austin Peay State University (17-15) and Charleston Southern University (13-17) on Nov. 27.

The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a school record 26-win season and captured The Summit League regular season and tournament championships. OU broke the league record with a 17-1 mark in conference action and returns All-American center Keith Benson (6-11, 225) who is considered as one of the top big men in the country by many publications. He averaged a double-double last season with 17.3 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game en route to being selected as the Mid-Major and Summit League Player of the Year.

Oakland's entire men's basketball schedule will be released later this summer.
