ROCHESTER, Mich.- Former Oakland men's basketball standout Reggie Hamilton has signed a professional contract to play for Victoria Libertas Pesaro in the Italian Serie A. Hamilton, who led the nation in scoring last season, was recently invited to play for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Summer League.
"I'm happy for Reggie and his family," Oakland head coach Greg Kampe said. "It was his goal to be a professional and make money playing basketball, and now he gets to do that."
Last season, Hamilton broke the single-season Summit League and OU scoring records (942 points) and became the first-ever league player to lead the NCAA in scoring at 26.2 points per game. A two-time All-Summit League first team selection, Hamilton also led the league in steals last season, and ended his career fifth all-time in league history with 548 career assists.
Located in Pesaro, Italy, VL Pesaro was founded in 1946 and has won two Italian Championships. The team currently competes in Lega Basket Serie A, the highest level of basketball in Italy.
"I know Reggie's dream was to play in the NBA," Kampe said. "This is a top division team and playing in this league will get him closer to his accomplishing his dream of playing in the NBA."
