ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University standout Corey Petros signed a professional contract with Rilski Sportist Samokov in Bulgaria. Petros made 102 consecutive starts in four seasons (2011-15) for the Golden Grizzlies and broke the all-time school record with 409 offensive rebounds.
"This is definitely a blessing and a dream of mine to be playing professional basketball since I was a kid," said Petros. "I want to thank all the coaches I have had and Oakland University for all the support I have had along the way."
A native of Macomb, Mich., Petros earned a bachelor's degree in finance in 2013 and received his master's degree in business administration in May 2015. He received the Haier Achievement Award for his performance in the classroom and on the floor, posting a 3.43 GPA in the MBA program, and is a two-time Academic All-Horizon League selection.
A three-time all-league performer, Petros led the Horizon League in rebounding over his final two seasons. He led the league in 2014-15 with a .602 field goal percentage, 10th in the NCAA.
Petros finished his senior season averaging 14.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He grabbed 1,073 rebounds and shot 57.6 percent during his standout career, ranking him third and fifth, respectively. Petros tallied 1,636 points to finish his career 14th all-time in school history.
The 6-foot-10 center will leave for Bulgaria on Tuesday.
