ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Oakland men's basketball team will face No. 2 Michigan State Saturday, Dec. 16 at Little Caesars Arena as part of the 2017 Hitachi College Basketball Showcase. The game will be televised on ESPNU and can also be heard on WDFN-AM (1130) with Neal Ruhl (pxp) and Justin Rose (analyst) on the call.

Last time out, the Golden Grizzlies defeated Chicago State 82-50 behind Jalen Hayes' career high 30 points.

ABOUT THE 2017 HITACHI COLLEGE BASKETBALL SHOWCASE
The 2017 Hitachi College Basketball Showcase will be the inaugural college basketball games at the brand-new, state-of-the-art Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The Saturday, December 16 contests will be between Detroit Mercy and Michigan at 12 p.m., then Oakland versus Michigan State at 2:30 p.m.

> The Spartans have won the last three neutral site matchups against the Golden Grizzlies by a total margin of victory of just 11 points (99-93 OT in '15; 67-63 in '13; 77-76 in '10)

> The last time Oakland faced a Michigan State team ranked in the top-3 was in 2015 at the Palace of Auburn Hills, falling 99-93 in overtime. The game was the highest-rated contest on ESPNU that year, drawing over 657,000 viewers in front of a soldout crowd of nearly 21,000.

> Michigan State Associate Head Coach Dwayne Stephens was an assistant for two seasons (1997-98 and 1998-99) under Greg Kampe. The 1998-99 campaign was Oakland's first season as a Division I member.

> Spartans assistant coach Dane Fife was the head coach for six seasons at Fort Wayne and was a Summit League foe with Oakland for four seasons. During his tenure, Oakland went 8-2 against Fife and the Mastodons.

> Oakland freshman forward James Beck and MSU freshman forward Xavier Tillman were high school teammates at Grand Rapids Christian. The two led the Eagles to a 27-1 record and an appearance in the Class A state title game in 2016-17.

> Jalen Hayes was named Horizon League Player of the Week after averaging a double-double last week against Eastern Michigan and Chicago State (25.5 points per game and 10 rebounds per game).

> Three out of five Horizon League Players of the Week have been from Oakland this season (Nunn, Walker, Hayes)

> Hayes has recorded a league-leading five straight double-doubles and now has 31 for his career, which is third all-time in program history. His five double-doubles ranks 16th in the NCAA.
