BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Nick Cunningham posted an even-round of 72, while Mark Foster shot a 74 to lead the Oakland men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Stoneridge Golf Club. The Golden Grizzlies shot the best score of the final round with a 298, finishing with an overall score of 891 (+27), five shots behind tournament winner Cleveland State (886/+22).
"Today the course played longer from the rain overnight, wind gusting up to 20 miles per hour and the scores reflected that today," said OU coach Russ Cunningham. "We had some positive individual performances, but in the end, second place leaves us all looking forward to our next opportunity."
Evan Bowser carded a final round 76 and finished in a tie for seventh place with an overall score of 221 (+5). Cunningham tallied a 10th-place finish with a score of 222 (+6) and Foster finished in a tie for 11th place (223/+7) to pace the Golden Grizzlies.
Bowling Green's Wes Gates captured medalist honors with a final round of 1-under-par 71, recording an overall score of 206 (-10) to win by 12 shots. Green Bay's Gene Kiela III (218/+2) finished runner-up, while CSU's Andrew Bailey finished third with a score of 219 (+3).
The Golden Grizzlies will compete in the Cleveland State Invitational on Oct. 1-2 at Canterbury Golf Course.
